Hello, guys!
Because we've been on our own for a little while now, both of us have accumulated most of the essentials we needed to start our lives together (i.e. pots, pans, silverware etc), so the two of us have little need for a "traditional" registry. That means please don't buy us a toaster!
However, we are saving for a honeymoon in Peru, something that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Therefore, in lieu of microwaves and coffee pots, we've set up this registry so that our family and friends can help us make our dream honeymoon come true. And because you are the ones who will be helping us to create these beautiful memories, you can be sure that we'll appreciate and fondly remember your gifts for years to come. After all, memories last a lot longer than fine china!
Thank you, everyone, in advance for your gifts, and we can't wait to see you all at the wedding!
Much Love,
Heather & Mike
P.S. -- There will be a card box at the wedding for those of you who don't want to use the website, or if you prefer, you can mail us a check. Feel free to give either of us a call if you need our address!
We're going to Peru!
After much thought, we've decided to spend our honeymoon in Peru! While I don't have an exact breakdown of price for the gift (I guess travel agencies just don't work like that), here is a summary of our itinerary so that you'll know what kinds of activities we'll be enjoying on our honeymoon. This is tentative for now, and we'll definitely have more details posted later!
On the first day of our honeymoon, we'll be arriving in Lima, Peru. We will be staying there for two nights, enjoying the historic sites, museums, and residential areas. On the third day, we'll be flying to Cuzco. We'll have to take some time out to get accustomed to the altitude, but after that, we'll be visiting the four Inca ruins the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay.
While in the Sacred Valley, we will renew our vows at a 300 year old Chapel that is part of a Franciscan monastery. We'll stay a night in the Valley and visit a traditional market on the way back to Cuzco the next day.
From Cuzco, we will depart on the Vistadome Train, the Orient Express of Peru, to visit Aguas Calientes, a city in close proximity to Machu Picchu. We'll be taking a full-day private tour of Machu Picchu and hiking the Inca Trail the next day. We will then return by train to Cuzco so that we may depart the next morning by the Inca Express to Puno, a town on the edge of Lake Titicaca. There, we'll visit the floating reed islands by canoe and have the opportunity to observe many native animals and birds.
From Puno, we will travel to Arequipa and have a tour of the city, which will include a famous convent carved directly into the volcanic rock. We'll also be able to pay a visit to the best preserved mummy in the Americas at the university.
The next morning, we will either ride into the Colca Valley on horseback or take a private car. There, we'll enjoy the hot springs and spa, as well as the view from Cruz del Condor. When we leave the Colca Valley and Arequipa, we'll be traveling to Paracas via a flight to Lima and bus, where we will enjoy a private flight over the Nazca Lines.
After returning from our excursion to the Nazca Lines, we'll be flying to Iquitos and the Amazon Jungle. We'll take a boat down the river to the lodge where we'll be staying. While there, we'll be visiting a native Amazon tribe and traditional shaman, touring area around the lodge to observe flora and fauna, spotting for fresh water dolphins in the Amazon river, and fishing for piranhas, among several other exciting things.
After staying a few nights in the jungle, we'll be returning to Lima for our flight home. We'll be spending a total of 18 or 19 days in Peru, and we know that every one of them is going to be an adventure!
We can't tell you how excited we are for this trip. Thank you so much for considering a gift toward this once in a lifetime experience!
