So, we have to be honest. You're not the only one who first decided to travel to New Zealand when they saw the Hobbits crawling around on the silver screen.

But we have more reasons for going to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aotearoa" target="_blank">Land of the Long White Cloud</a> than just to visit the Shire!

We love adventuring together. Trips to cities are great, but trips to places of natural beauty are even better. With everything from mountains to beaches, rushing water and flowing sky, New Zealand promises an adventure like none either of us have yet had.

I never thought I'd find myself linking to a USA Today article, but <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-07-15-fun-in-marriage_N.htm" target="_blank">research has shown</a> that couples who share new experiences together continually strengthen their bonds through those experiences. Help us strengthen our new vows in on this adventure of a lifetime!

We're going to New Zealand!

Below is a list of adventures we'd like to tackle, experiences we hope to enjoy, food we can't wait to gorge on and miscellaneous bits that will tie everything together. Obviously, we don't expect to nail all of these items, but any help you can give will make our eyes that much more twinkly when we tell you stories of our Grand Adventure for years to come. Whale Watching - Ever see a whale UPSIDE DOWN? Neither have we! On the South Island in Kaikoura, whales hang out upside down all the time. Seriously! Just look at the picture. It's a Southern Hemisphere thing, I guess.

Diving in the Poor Knights - We're not trained SCUBA divers yet, but with a site ranked by Jacques Cousteau as among the best diving spots in the world, we want to give it a shot!

Road Trip - The East Cape Road is New Zealand's answer to Hawaii's Hana Highway. We'll journey back in time along the last remote outreaches of the Pacific Coast, in the first place in the world to see the morning sun.

Visit a Maori Marae - We will experience the hongi Maori greeting, see centuries-old song and dance performances, and eat from an underground hangi (oven). Eric will test his tongue length against the bravest Maori warriors...wish him luck.

Swim with Sharks - You've seen those nature shows with the dumb guy who goes underwater in a shark cage and pokes at them with long sticks, right? That could be us!
