Hi everyone - First, we'd like to say that your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for. Your time and effort to be with us is something we deeply appreciate in our hearts, and we are so thrilled that we will be able to celebrate this happy occasion with you.
As we began planning our wedding, we realized that we are blessed to already own practically every household item and kitchen appliance on the planet. What's more, a recent New York Times article tells that people are happier when they spend money on experiences instead of material objects. For these reasons, we have decided to register for our honeymoon, an experience of a lifetime!
While we have taken many exciting trips together over the past 4 years, we are very much looking forward to our first real adventure as a married couple. We hope you find this registry as a way to help us make our dream honeymoon come true. The memories will last a lifetime! We'll do our best to document each unique experience via photos and include them in our personalized thank you note to you.
Thanks again and we can't wait to see you!
Love,
Jessica and Chris
We're going to Around the World and to The Maldives!
Where We're Going:
The Maldives is an island country in the Indian Ocean made up of approximately 1,190 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls. The atolls are composed of live coral reefs and sand bars. Only 200 of the islands are inhabited.
Why We're Going:
The islands are a tropical paradise with amazing sea life, and we love snorkeling and taking underwater photos of all the creatures! Unfortunately, along with our beloved Caribbean coral reefs near St. Thomas and St. John, the Maldives are also listed among some of the amazing spots on this planet that may be destroyed by global warming within our lifetime.
Threat to the Maldives from Global Warming:
Over the last century worldwide sea levels have risen by about 8 inches. Because it is the lowest country in the world, any rise in the ocean could threaten the existence of Maldives. In November 2008, Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed announced plans to look into purchasing new land in India, Sri Lanka, and Australia, due to his concerns about global warming and the possibility of the islands being inundated with water in the next two decades from rising sea levels. Current estimates place worldwide sea level rising 23 inches by 2100. The purchase of new land is to be made from a fund generated by tourism. By traveling to The Maldives for our honeymoon, we hope to help in our own small way by drawing attention to the amazing places in the world that are threatened by global warming and by spending tourism dollars in a place where it may help.
