Our honeymoon was supposed to start the day after our wedding. Unfortunately, our car broke down on the way to church and we had to postpone our plans for a day. We flew out of San Diego to Viva Las Vegas on June 30th for three days of excitement. We had family who flew out from all over for our wedding and we all met up in Vegas to share in the delicious buffets and walk around to see all the lights and hotel themes. It was so much fun hanging out with family and taking our chances at the tables. Lets just say we left with a little less money than we arrived with....Then we were off to Hawaii. We stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani for 8 amazing days! We chose to go to this Hawaiian paradise because that is were I was born and raised and my new husband had never been there. I wanted to show Ray where I spent my childhood, and to experience God's beautiful creations. The lush tree's, colorful flowers, beautiful sunsets, the night sky full of stars, pillow clouds in a baby blue sky, clear blue waters, and of course the people.
The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani has a wonderful reputation and a great location! Our hotel room was beautiful, we were on the 26th floor and had an ocean view room that was directly above the hotel lounge. In the morning we sat on the lanai (balcony) and watched the waves crashing into the shore and at night we could hear the sounds of the Hawaiian islands through the talented musicians below.
Time almost stood still the whole time we were there. Minutes seemed like hours. Our itinerary included driving around the island, going to Germains luau, spending the day at the beautiful beaches of Waianae, going on a ghost tour, surfing the clear blue waters of Waikiki, going deep sea fishing with my brothers (we also got to jump off the boat and swim in the Pacific ocean which is an experience we will never forget), seeing dolphins swim and jump beside the boat, going on a dinner cruise on the Starlet out to Diamond Head then to Kaka'ako Basin, shopping at Ala Moana and at the Aloha Stadium swapmeet and ofcourse eatting all the onolicious food! We ate at Rainbows drive-inn, Leonards Bakery, Sam Choys, Makai Market place in Ala Moana, Gina's Korean BBQ, Keo's and the list goes on and on....
Our favorite activity has to be between deep sea fishing and surfing. My brother has a fishing boat so the sea was ours for as long as we wanted. It was such a beautiful day and the waters were amazing! Seeing the dolphins swimming right next to us and even seeing some sea turtles pop their heads up to see what was going on was really neat. But swimming in the middle of the Pacific was out of this world! Surfing was so much fun. We were only out for about an hour on a rented board but it seemed like forever. We even tried to do tandem surfing but failed miserably....although we failed with big smiles on our faces!
Our honeymoon fit perfectly into our budget, $3600.00 plus a little extra for all the stuff we brought back with us. Luckily the wonderful girls at Hawaiian airlines helped us out with the weight of our luggage so it didn't cost us an arm and a leg to get everything back. Much Mahalo's!
We would definitely recommend Hawaii as a honeymoon destination. There are so many things to do and see. So much culture, so much Aloha everywhere you go. Even though I was born and raised there, everything was fresh. We're planning on going back next summer, this time we'll be visiting with family and friends more than doing the touristy thing. Hawaii was absolutely amazing! Starting off our marriage in a place filled with so much beauty is such a wonderful start to a wonderful marriage.
